Astrology enthusiasts believe the stars and their positions can tell us about our personalities. But what about sleep? Here, we explore the sleeping habits of each star sign and provide each of them with sleep advice...

From Sagittarius to Scorpio, where you lie on the zodiac chart can be said to affect your personality traits – your likes and dislikes, and, apparently, even your sleep schedule. Many astrologers and mediums believe that your star sign can impact how much sleep you need each night and how you can best achieve it.
Typically, we’d recommend around 8 hours of sleep every night to function healthily the next day. However, if you often find this is too much or too little for you, it could be due to astrological associations. So whether you’re a sceptic or an avid astrologer, we’ve looked into how much sleep each star sign should get and their recommended bedtime routine.
21st March – 19th April
As the sign of the Ram, Aries is a notorious star sign for their energetic nature, and can therefore most likely get by on minimal sleep. In fact, 6 hours of sleep each night is said to be enough for them.
However, due to their restless nature, Aries can sometimes struggle to fall asleep quickly. Astrologer Kyle Thomas states: “restless sleeping patterns can occur for this fiery sign if they don’t channel their energy productively rather than letting it fester within.”
Therefore, the best sleeping tip for Aries is to schedule some wind-down time in their sleep habits every night. Things that could help them relax include burning essential oils, such as lavender or camomile, before bed, or meditation.
20th April – 20th May
Taureans tend to be sleep lovers and could easily clock in around 9 hours a night. However, their recommended amount of sleep is around 7-8 hours, scheduling quick naps when needed to avoid feeling sluggish.
According to psychic medium Samantha Lynn, Taurus signs are earthly and need to make sure their foundation is stable in order to get a good night’s kip. Therefore, a sleeping tip for Taurus is to ensure your bedroom is as comfortable as possible. Keep your room tidy and your sheets freshly washed. It will also help to invest in some soft pillows and throws.
21st May – 20th June
It is believed that Geminis have the most disorientated sleep schedule. They can sleep from a quick 2 hours to a lengthy 12. Their sleeping habits are not regularly the same each night. For this star sign, it’s best to stick to a happy medium and try to get 6 hours of sleep every night.
Geminis are prone to overthinking, especially at night. According to Amber Zodiac: “they often have brilliant ideas in the middle of the night that they just have to act on at the moment.” The best bedtime routine for Gemini would therefore be to try and switch off their brain before sleeping. Things that can help with this include turning off any electronics and writing in a journal before bed.
21st June – 22nd July
Cancer signs are ruled by the moon, so sleep should take a natural priority. Those who belong to the cancer sign should aim for a solid 8 hours of sleep every night.
According to Bustle, Cancer signs “love to feel nurtured and to nurture others.” So, chatting to your loved ones before bed can give you peace of mind for a good night’s rest. A good sleeping tip for Cancer is to add a herbal tea and you’re in for maximum Zzzs.
23rd July – 22nd August
Leos don’t often need much sleep due to their active nature. However, it’s important they leave time aside to recharge. Leo signs should try to clock in around 7 hours of sleep each night but could most likely get by on less.
Because of their social nature, Leos may find it difficult to sleep alone. Try spooning your partner for 10 minutes before sleeping. If you’re single, creating a peaceful and cosy environment can recreate that level of comfort. A great sleeping tip for Leos is to invest in blackout curtains and plenty of pillows.
23rd August – 22nd September
Similar to Aries, Virgo’s tend to get minimal sleep due to an overly active mind and constantly adding to their to-do list. Luckily though, they don’t require much sleep and can get by on as little as 3 hours according to Bustle. However, we’d recommend aiming for a minimum of 5 hours for maximum performance.
To help, a good bedtime routine for Virgo involves clearing your mind and winding down. Try journaling or guided meditations. Failing that, herbal teas can help you achieve a relaxed state.
23rd September – 22nd October
The zodiac sign of the scales, Librans loves balance and therefore should aim for a healthy 8 hours of sleep every night.
According to Thrive Global: “The effort of balancing and people pleasing that goes into a usual Libra day is released at night”. Therefore, any form of self-care should be incorporated into a Libra’s bedtime routine. This includes scheduling in skincare, having herbal tea, and sleeping in freshly washed linen.
23rd October – 21st November
Scorpios are typically plagued with high energy levels during the night and will often prefer a daytime kip instead of a full night’s sleep. However, for optimum sleep health, it’s recommended restless Scorpios schedule in a full 8 hours come bedtime to help achieve the rest they need.
Samantha Lynn, psychic medium, recommends centring your thoughts by reading a novel. She adds, “the novel shouldn’t be too exciting, though.” If you’re not a keen reader, a sleeping tip for Scorpios are to work on your sleep setting and ensure your room is dark and comfortable.
22nd November – 21st December
Another star sign renowned for high energy levels, Sagittarians often disregard sleep as a priority, especially nearing an important deadline. While those who belong to this sign can get by on very little sleep, it’s recommended to schedule in a minimum of 6 hours.
To get a good night’s rest, it’s key for Sagittarians to wind down and relax. Schedule in a good stretch or yoga to help ease any restlessness. If you’re struggling to sleep, a pair of ear plugs and an eye mask to block out noise and light can help according to Bustle.
22nd December – 19th January
As Capricorns favour a solid routine, they tend to take their sleep pretty seriously. Because of this, they should aim for at least 7 hours a night.
According to astrologer Kyle Thomas, Capricorns “can sometimes become anxious at night, but if they feel grounded, expect them to adhere to a very strict sleep routine.” Because of this, Capricorn’s biggest priority in their bedtime routine should be calming the mind. Like Gemini, aim for some screen-free time and set some bedtime rituals, this could include reading, yoga, or a bath before bed.
20th January – 18th February
According to Thrive Global, air sign Aquarius often has difficulty getting to sleep due to supercharged energy levels and can often feel sleep-deprived. While their sleep pattern is bound to be erratic, it’s best for this sign to aim for at least 5 hours to feel fresh in the morning.
To help Aquarians achieve this, bedtime reading can help them relax while feeling productive. As well as this, a hot bath is perfect for winding down.
19th February – 20th March
According to Ask My Oracle: “Pisces are blessed with a great capacity to sleep” and could rack up a whole 18 hours if left to it. To help Pisces signs feel fully rested, 9 hours of sleep a night is best.
To help get their 9 hours, Pisceans should avoid caffeine after midday. Because this sign is also known for its creativity, reading fiction or fantasy books will help stimulate their dreams.
