“Choosing the right bedroom colour is more than just a design decision—it sets the mood for your personal sanctuary. From calming blues to earthy browns, the perfect shade can transform your space into a haven of relaxation and style."

Deciding what colour to paint your bedroom can feel like a lot of pressure. Of course, it’s an important decision; your colour scheme will likely set the tone for the rest of the room, so it needs to feel right.

Many factors can influence your colour choice, from the shape and size of your bedroom to how much light gets in, what kind of furniture you already have and what design styles are trending.

In this blog, we reveal our predictions on which paint colours will be dominating bedrooms in 2025. Plus, we share our top styling tips on which beds go best with each shade, and how to get the look with matching furniture, beautiful bedding and complimentary decor that will transform your bedroom into a stunning show home.

1. Pretty pinks

First up, we have Dulux’s Sweet Embrace, a pretty pastel pink. It’s soft, delicate and brings a calming atmosphere to any bedroom. No wonder Dulux named it Colour of the Year 2024!

This colour makes for easy breezy styling, particularly when paired with our chic Fairbourne bed, matching bedside tables and blanket box, which offer a blank white canvas. We recommend decorating with matching pink bedding and rug for a cohesive look. If you want to bring in an accent colour, keep things simple with a beautiful beige – just look how that pampas grass on the bedside table complements the brown wood on the bed and blanket box. Simple, elegant and a perfect place to relax come morning or night.

2. Blissful beige

Neutrals are always a winner for a bedroom colour scheme, which is why we love Lick’s Beige 10 as pictured above. This beautifully subtle shade has warm red and yellow tones, which is great for those who want a neutral bedroom that still feels inviting and cosy.

Beige is easy to style in a bedroom because it’s super adaptable. You could use darker hues of beige such as biscuit and tan, or lighter tones such as sand and cream. Alternatively, you could pick a single bold colour to contrast your neutral – like we’ve done here with our gorgeous Margot Bed. The pink against the beige backdrop really makes the bed pop and become the centre of attention – as it should, just look at it! Keep the rest of the decor fairly muted with other neutrals and the look is complete.

3. Earthy browns

Paint colours: Little Greene – Galette (primary colour), Little Greene – Affogato (accent colour)

Fancy something a little richer? If you’ve been starstruck by Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2025, Mocha Mousse, try Little Greene’s orange-brown Galette paint as shown above. We’ve complemented this with Little Greene’s deeper Affogato shade on the window frame, ceiling and cornicing. This is a fantastic dupe to recreate that same delicious essence of chocolate and coffee that Mocha Mousse encompasses. It’s almost good enough to eat! (But we wouldn’t advise that…)

This dreamy colour duo results in a rich, earthy brown bedroom palette, which makes for the perfect background to contrast the rustic natural-tone finish of our House Beautiful Rosa Upholstered Ottoman Bed Frame and matching blanket box. We’ve styled this room with rust and blue accents (which we expect to see a lot of in 2025), plus a beautiful checkered rug to tie everything together.

4. Calming blues

Whether you associate it with clear summer skies or rolling waves crashing onto the shore, blue has long been known for its calming qualities – making it a popular choice for the bedroom. That’s one of the many reasons we love Valspar’s Placid Pool.

When styling a pale blue bedroom, it’s best to stick to the cool undertones with other shades of blue. This keeps the room coordinated. White is also a great contrast for a crisp, calm ambience. Just look how we’ve styled our Marcello bed with a white rug, bedside tables and lamps, and small accents of darker blue blankets and cushions. It reminds us of a beautiful seaside retreat.

5. Moody dark blues

Just because your bedroom is a place to unwind and relax, doesn’t mean you need to stick to a muted colour palette. James by Little Greene is a stunning grey-blue shade that can look both lighter and darker depending on the lighting of your room.

We love pairing darker shades like this blue with other dark hues to create a moody tone on tone bedroom design. Here, we’ve paired the walls with our navy velvet-touch Camden bed, a matching navy blanket box, and dark blue curtains. To elevate the look, we even painted the inside of the shelves in the same Little Greene paint – we love how the books, plants and ornaments look displayed here. A sophisticated and elegant aesthetic.

6. Soft greens

There’s a reason that green is so often the colour of choice in our bedrooms; it’s calming, peaceful and can even make a room feel bigger and brighter. That’s why we styled this bedroom in Little Greene’s soft green Tabernacle paint.

Check out how we’ve introduced multiple elements of the green Tabernacle shade in this bedroom, from the walls to the window seat, as well as the soft green blinds and matching bedding. This is paired with other neutral tones for balance, such as the light wooden bedside tables, the cream rug and of course, the grey sleigh bed. Using more than one neutral is a great technique to add interest to a room, whilst still creating an environment that feels calm and relaxing to unwind in.

7. Bold green

Finally, how about a dark green to bring a touch of grandeur to your bedroom? The answer is COAT’s Ditch The Tie. A lick of this timeless dark green paint is sure to elevate any bedroom.

We’ve styled this room with our daring leopard print TheraPur® headboard and divan bed, and decorated with accessories in different shades of green (including an abundance of houseplants!) – any maximalist’s dream. Of course, you don’t need to be this adventurous. You could always opt for a more neutral bed frame in black or brown to compliment the forest green walls. It’s extremely versatile!

What is the most popular bedroom colour?

Unpretentious classics

Next year, we expect to see a lot of warm, inviting hues used in our bedroom designs such as rich neutrals, earthy browns and rusts. Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2025, Mocha Mousse, is just that. A simple and comforting warm brown, perfect for painting your entire room in – or using as an accent colour.

Commenting on the colour selection Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute said, “Mocha Mousse extends our perceptions of the browns from being humble and grounded to being aspirational and luxe.”

"Mocha mousse is a comforting neutral; it feels organic, earthy, peaceful, and warming. It can work with an array of styles, as a wonderful base colour to match most things, and can be a full-on wall colour or incorporated in accents. It’s a perfect colour to bring harmony into your bedroom to boost personal wellness and comfort whilst elevating it into a luxurious, indulgent, and calming feel.’’

Sustainability shift

We’re also seeing a shift towards sustainability, as homeowners choose colours for their homes that will stand the test of time, rather than giving in to fast fashion trends.

Laurie Pressman, VP of the Pantone Color Institute adds to this: “With consumers increasingly conscious about consumption, trend cycles have slowed down and seasonless, genderless shades that broaden our definition of core colours are coming to the forefront. These neutral, fundamental shades are practical, yet at the same time offer a bit of low-key chic. They can stand on their own or work as building blocks of other shades.”

Colour clashing

We’ve also seen a huge trend for colour clashing this year and this trend shows no sign of stopping for 2025. This is the art of combining two bright colours that you might not expect to go together – but still do!

If you’re unsure about which colours clash “well” together, our top tip is to look at the colour that’s opposite it on the colour wheel. With this in mind, yellow and purple are an unlikely perfect pairing, as are pink and green.

Top tip: If you’re nervous about mixing too many colours, try following the 60-30-10 rule:

  •  60% – Primary colour (usually your bedroom walls)
  • 30% – Secondary colour (likely to be your flooring, an accent wall, curtains or blinds, bedroom furniture)
  • 10% – Accent colour (decor such as cushions, smaller rugs, lamps and ornaments)

What colours look best in a bedroom?

There really is no right or wrong answer to “What colour should my bedroom be?” Interior design is all about self-expression, so your bedroom needs to feel relaxing for you. That being said, some colours look particularly amazing in a bedroom.

Neutrals are a great choice. They’re a timeless classic that never go out of style. Whilst many interior design trends come and go, you can always rely on neutrals looking chic and sophisticated year after year.

Often referred to as the “colour of zen,” blue is widely considered the most calming colour on the wheel. That’s probably why so many of us choose this peaceful shade for our bedroom colour palettes.

What is the best colour for sleep in a bedroom?

Legend has it that some colours can help us sleep better. Okay, it’s not a legend. It’s actually colour psychology – and it’s very interesting.

According to colour psychology experts, some hues (such as calming blues and greens) can make us feel more relaxed, whilst others (sorry red, we’re looking at you) can make us feel more alert and energised. So, if you’re finding yourself restless and unable to sleep when you dive into bed, it might be time for a colour switch-up…

You’ll be surprised by how a fresh lick of paint and a few spruces can totally transform a room and make it feel brand-new.

The most important thing to remember when choosing your bedroom colour scheme is striking that balance between picking a colour that reflects your personal taste, whilst also evoking feelings of relaxation. The goal is to create a bedroom that makes you feel happy waking up every morning, and somewhere you can’t wait to curl up with a book and drift off into slumber every night.
