Bedroom (noun) ‘a room for sleeping in’ – but today it’s so much more.

Sending emails, talking to colleagues, and making to-do lists—sound familiar? According to our sleep survey, 63% of people say they work at home at some point in the week. Hybrid working has become the norm. It’s no surprise that working from a warm and comfy cocoon sounds just… perfect.

Join us as we share how to create a working bedroom that pairs productivity and peace.

1. The small bedroom office

You can convert any space into an office, but little bedrooms require an extra touch of ingenuity.

It’s time to get smart with your space, bedroom professionals! Take a look at our Sleepmotion bed frames offering a place to work and sleep. The innovative Zero Gravity technology allows you to adjust your position at the touch of a button. You’ll be able to find a working posture that’s best for you, avoiding any unwanted aches and pains that can leave you feeling restless.

Deadlines, tiresome workdays, and a never-ending inbox of emails you need to reply to – an adjustable bed will support you through them all. They definitely don’t sacrifice style for practicality either. The Alana Sleepmotion bed frame is elegant with upholstered fabric and button detailing on the headboard; a timeless neutral design that’s going to be the centrepiece of your working bedroom.

Forget creaky office chairs or squashy, unsupportive sofas. Alana’s most advanced model comes complete three adjustable areas: back, lumbar and feet, which can be controlled via its wireless remote or the Napp by Dreams app. It also has two massage units for your back and feet to ensure you’re relaxed, no matter what the working day throws at you.

2. Comfort is key

Plush pillows, homely throws and luxurious mattresses.

We spend a long time working from our bed, so why not make it the snuggest environment it possibly can be?

Find a mattress with the support you need. From soft to very firm comfort grades – we’ve got one for you. Next, invest in pillows. They’ll provide neck and lower back support. How? Well, you can use them to prop yourself up to a proper working position and stay comfortable all day long.

Finally, add a throw to the end of your bed for extra warmth and style. A working bedroom doesn’t need to clone a mundane office. Add some cosy character and create a space where you love to spend your 9-5.

If working from your bed is the only option, it doesn’t mean you have to stay sedentary. Incorporating even a small amount of movement into your day can make a big difference. Here are three of the best ways to do so:

  • Enjoy a short yoga routine you can do on your mattress
  • Taking calls while you walk is a good way of keeping active and staying productive
  • Allowing yourself a lunch break, ideally incorporating some time outside, means you’ll have a renewed focus for the rest of the day.

3. Savvy power supplies

Introducing the modern headboard with a built-in USB charger.

A bedroom executive’s dream, look at the Logan headboard. The contemporary bonded leather design features a USB port on each side – making it ideal for charging your electronics in bed. They’ll also help keep your space free of wires scattered across the floor, so you avoid clutter in your dynamic workspace design.

4. Clever yet chic storage

The multifunctional bedroom calls for storage space.

Invest in a storage bed, bedside tables and a blanket box. Having a de-cluttered workspace allows for greater productivity, as less clutter means less distractions.

With a storage bed, you’ll be able to store away all your work equipment at the end of the workday – out of sight, out of mind. Take a look at the Owen ottoman bed frame to see how. With under-bed storage, built-in side tables, spotlights, and USB ports, it’s the ultimate working-from-home bed. The super-soft upholstery is paired with dark wooden accents for an ultra-elegant finish.

5. The blue office

From nautical tones to opulent royal shades – blue has been proven the most productive colour, according to the University of British Columbia.

Promoting a sense of calm, supercharge your workday with a blue bedroom colour scheme. It’s believed to boost your concentration due to its soothing effect. So, let’s start by choosing a blue bed frame.

The Grove Ottoman bed frame has it all. Beautifully upholstered velvet fabric, an inviting quilted headboard and under-bed storage for the space seekers among us. Pair the Grove with its matching bedside tables and enjoy its built-in USB port, perfect for keeping electricals charged for all those important WFB – working from bed – meetings.

6. Separate work and sleep

Finding the perfect layout is key for a dual bedroom.

If you have space, we’d always encourage leaving your bed as a place to rest and investing in functional office furniture for all your working needs. This provides important separation to ensure you can switch off at the end of a busy day. You can do this by creating a distinct physical barrier between your bed and workspace – either simply placing them a good distance apart, or adding a room divider.

It’s also important to make sure all your equipment is safely stored between shifts.  With our Dreams Workshop Divan Base for example, when your day comes to a close, you can store away all your work equipment in the handy built-in drawers helping you slow down into a state of zen.
