Navy and grey are what we like to call “all-time classics,” so it’s easy to see why both of these shades have been used time and time again for bedroom decor. But when paired together… that’s when the magic happens.
This timeless colour combo offers endless creativity, allowing you to curate a sleeping space that is truly elegant and inviting.
In this blog, we’ll explore how to balance these two classic colours, with expert tips on selecting complementary shades, integrating textures, and choosing furniture and accents that enhance the colour scheme and create a cohesive navy blue and grey bedroom.
Navy and grey make a dream duo for interiors. Why? It’s all about colour psychology. Whilst navy brings depth and richness to a room, grey adds a neutral, calming balance. Together, they create a classic, timeless look that’s sure to stay in style for years to come.
What’s more, both of these shades are pretty much gender neutral. Not too masculine or feminine, everyone can enjoy a navy and grey bedroom! Speaking of adaptability, this colour palette is incredibly versatile, too. Since both shades can be paired with many other colours, it’s easy to switch up your design with endless styling options.
Like every colour, different shades of grey and navy can massively impact the ambience of a room. Before you dive into a navy and grey colour scheme, you might want to consider what kind of bedroom vibe you’d like to create by selecting particular hues. Here are our three favourite variations…
One way to achieve the look is by pairing light grey with deep navy. This keeps the room feeling airy while adding depth. The key to keeping this design soft is using light grey as your dominant colour, on your walls, carpet and bed. Use the deep navy as an accent colour throughout your room on smaller furnishings such as curtains, bedding, lamps and ornaments.

To create a cosy, more intimate setting, opt for a charcoal grey hue paired with a muted navy. Don’t be afraid to go bold and paint the walls with your muted navy. This will instantly add a moody yet sophisticated ambience and looks great paired with dark furniture like a charcoal bed and matching blanket box.
If you prefer a dreamy, zen-like bedroom, then we’d recommend using lighter hues, such as a dusty blue and cool grey combo. This is a soft, serene approach to the colourway that’s great for smaller rooms or minimalist styles. Try painting your bedroom walls dusty blue and use a cool grey bed, such as our Marcello ottoman, as your centrepiece. Style with light blue and cool-toned grey decor for a calming, sleep sanctuary.
Now you’ve got the basics of navy and grey colour schemes, let’s put it into practice. Here are some of our favourite ways to experiment with patterns, textiles and lighting to create a beautifully harmonious navy and grey bedroom…
One of the easiest ways to achieve the navy and grey look is with a statement wall. To do this, you could choose just one whole wall to paint (we’d suggest the wall behind your bed) or add some DIY wall panelling and paint the bottom half in navy.
This technique is a sure-fire way to make a statement and add some elegance to your bedroom. Contrast your navy wall with a grey bed, and style with both grey and navy accents to keep the look uniform.

If you’re worried that using navy is going to make your bedroom too dark and dingy, simply counter the deep tones with light grey furniture. We love this shade combo because it mixes sophisticated navy with calming, neutral light grey for an overall balanced look. Make sure to keep the rest of the room light and airy with pale neutral decor, like the Deacon ottoman is styled here…
Looking to make a statement? Navy and grey are the perfect tones to complement a coastal bedroom design. To nail this look effectively (without it looking too “themed”), stick to natural materials like wood, wicker, and rattan for your furniture.
Shade-wise, make sure to use soft, pale greys and dark navy. Don’t be afraid to dot a few nautical motifs around the room such as stripes, knotted blankets, and coastal-inspired artwork, to create a beautiful seaside retreat. Ay, ay, sailor!
Metallics look amazing with both navy and silver so this one is a no brainer. To add a touch of glitz and glam, introduce some metallics into your bedroom design. Our stunning Mount velvet-finish bed with matching bedside tables (available in both blue and navy – fancy that!), features gold and silver accents on the headboard and table legs, adding instant elegance. You can also introduce metallics through your light fittings and smaller decor such as picture frames, clocks, ornaments, and candle sticks.
More of a minimalist? No problem. Keep things contemporary by layering the same shades of your chosen grey and navy blue. We love how our dark grey Sutton ottoman bed frame looks against this charcoal grey backdrop, for a modern, monochromatic aesthetic.
To style, keep things simple by dressing the bed in similar dark shades to your colour palette, such as navy blue, like we’ve done with our Sutton bed here. An ottoman is also a great bed choice as it keeps your bedroom clutter-free, for the ultimate minimalist look.

Patterns are a wonderful way to inject some life into an otherwise plain room. A simple method of incorporating patterns into your grey and navy bedroom is with your bedding. From funky spots and stripes to feminine florals, there are so many prints to choose from.
One of our firm favourites is gingham, which has made a huge comeback this year. It looks gorgeous on bedding, particularly if you’re a fan of the cottagecore trend. We love how @aimeeloves_x’s pretty grey and white gingham bedding freshens up the grey colour scheme here.
We’ve seen a lot of people mixing and matching their gingham bedding this year and we adore this lived-in, cosy aesthetic. Why not experiment mixing your grey gingham with clashing colours or patterns?
Mixing up your materials is a fantastic way to add extra depth and details to your room – not to mention cosiness. If you’re not sure where to begin, start with your bed by layering textured blankets, throws and scatter cushions. Try mixing your colours too, by alternating navy and grey to match the rest of your bedroom decor.
Once you’ve mastered your bed styling, consider experimenting with materials throughout the rest of your room, such as a fluffy grey rug, floaty sheer curtains, or a plush bean bag in the corner.
Looking for an easy shortcut to a coordinated bedroom? The secret is matching sets. Our navy House Beautiful Grove blanket box is the perfect pairing for our House Beautiful Grove Bed. Not only does it tie the room together and give it a chic and sophisticated feel, it’s super handy for storing away your spare bedding, towels and even clothing, as well. Practical and stylish – now that’s our kind of “two birds, one stone” situation.
Playing with light and dark is one of our favourite elements of design. To keep your bedroom atmosphere calm and tranquil, try highlighting your navy and grey colour scheme with pops of white. We love how the Charlie upholstered ottoman bed frame is contrasted here with white bed sheets and white light fittings on either side of the grey bed, giving a fresh hotel-style look.
Finally, if you’re looking to create a dramatic, moody bedroom, try the tone on tone design technique. This involves subtly layering different hues of a single colour. In this instance, we’d recommend using the same colour paint for your walls, shelving (even ceiling and skirting boards), and adding matching curtains like we’ve done here with our Camden bed. To keep things looking chic, dress the bed in shades close to your wall colour, such as muted navy. The result? An elevated showroom that all your friends will be envious of.
Navy blue and grey bedroom designs offer a perfect blend of sophistication and tranquility. Whether you opt for a sleek, contemporary look or a moody, ambient feel, the balance between navy’s richness and grey’s calming neutrality will create a bedroom that feels like a serene sanctuary.
