1. A place to study

A big part of a teenager’s life is school and, unfortunately for them, that means a lot of homework and studying at home. So, let’s create a hip space for them to do it!

A hideout your teen can use for sleeping and studying will be a great help during some of the most stressful academic years.

A great option for this is a versatile cabin bed with a built-in desk. These create a nice separation between the sleep and study space, as well as provide much-needed storage for files, folders, and books. They are ideal for smaller bedrooms as the mid-sleeper height maximises any square footage.

2. Hobby corner

Turning the bedroom into a sanctuary where your teenager can enjoy their hobbies in peace gives them room to learn and grow.

There are a few ways of doing this, depending on what your teen’s hobby is. Here are a few of our favourite ideas:

Budding artists and writers may appreciate a cabin bed and use the desk as a workspace for their craft. The Anderson Desk High Sleeper Bed comes with a comfy pullout chair, so whether your teen is drawing on their tablet or reading the latest BookTok recommendation, they’ll be comfortable.

For gaming-mad teens, the Drift Gaming Bed is surely the most exciting option out there. It will immerse them into a world of digital joy. Cool LED lights, a headset holder and mood lighting – a gamer’s dream! It turns the bedroom into a functional space so your teenager can game comfortably whilst keeping their cables and consoles neatly stored away – a major plus for keeping the rest of the house tidy.

3. Easily personalised

Often it’s difficult to design a teenager’s bedroom because, as we all know, they develop new interests all the time. The best way to tackle this and create a timeless bedroom is to keep it adaptable from the beginning.

Choose neutral staples like a classic wooden bed frame. These are ideal as they complement a wide range of colours and styles, so they can paint the walls as many times as they like! With the frame made of natural-coloured wood, you can personalise around the neutral base: choose colourful bed sheets, lots of throw pillows, and rugs to change the feel of the bedroom.

Another option is to provide customisable spaces in your child’s bedroom such as display boards. Here they can stick up pictures, create a mood board, and showcase sentimental items without taking up too much space. This is a grand idea if they like to change things around often or are feeling the squeeze in a smaller space.

4. Lots of storage space

Storage is crucial to any bedroom, but especially for teenagers with books, clothes, and shoes galore.

Growing up means collecting hobbies, fashion styles, and playground trinkets. Teens will always need more places for their stuff to go. More importantly, having designated storage spaces will help them keep their space tidier, which is good for mental health and general cleanliness. We can ask them to tidy their bedrooms as much as possible, but without the right storage solutions, some bedrooms just never look neat.

While bunk beds and cabin beds are fantastic for making the most out of tiny spaces, if your teen wants more sleeping space, then a kid’s storage bed could be the solution. From ottoman and divan, the secret storage makes the bedroom cosier and frees up floor space that can be used for other furniture like desks, sofas, and TVs. You can even add blanket boxes, which come in all different materials from velvet to wood and are great for hiding away clutter.

5. Room for friends

Whether your teens share a room or like to host their friends, it’s important to make their bedroom a comfortable place to hang out.

Bunk beds are always useful and there are plenty of stylish options that can make your teen’s room feel more grown-up. Simple and sturdy, the Saturn Metal Bunk Bed is perfect for older kids because of the modern black metal frame. You can easily decorate around this bunk bed as black complements both dark and light designs, fitting in seamlessly and giving floor space back.

If there is more space to work with, a day bed or sofa bed is a super cool option for guests. Not only do you have extra sleeping space but also space to hang out simply by folding the bed away. This can really make the bedroom feel modern and grown up, as it can be adapted for multiple functions. It’ll certainly make your house the hippest place for sleepovers. Now it’s up to you whether that’s a good thing or not…
