Take your hosting to the next level this Christmas by creating a winter wonderland guest room for your festive friends.
Spare rooms can easily feel a little neglected throughout the year, but with a few thoughtful touches, you can easily bring them back to life for the festive season when your guests arrive.
From super-soft bedding to glowing candlelight, handy storage and festive accessories, in this blog we’ll share our top tips on injecting some cosiness into your spare rooms that’s sure to wow your friends and family.
Once you’ve sorted where your guests will be sleeping, it’s time to think about the bedding.
Updating your guests’ bedding is one of the simplest ways to completely transform a bedroom, without spending a fortune. Invest in some novelty bedding that’s sure to bring a smile to their faces. Think reindeers, red and green tartan, or metallic and frosted detailing. Don’t forget to add some extra pillows and cushions so guests can comfortably prop themselves up in bed. Finish with some cosy fleece blankets or a soft faux fur throw for added texture and warmth. They won’t want to get out of bed in the morning!
Just look how we’ve styled the cosy Margot Bouclé Bed Frame with red and green cushions and a cosy red throw. Simple styling and a dash of Christmas spirit – all that’s missing is a stocking at the end of the bed…
If your guest room has just a divan base, why not upgrade it for Christmas with an inviting headboard, like our upholstered Malham design?
Divan beds are a great choice for spare rooms, and with a simple upgrade can become the perfect sleep sanctuary for any guest.
Upholstered headboards are great for guest rooms because they always look and feel cosy – no matter the time of year. Your guests can prop themselves up comfortably – perhaps while you make them a cuppa in the morning…?

When your guests come to stay, make sure they have room to make themselves at home.
Travelling light is so overrated – give your guests plenty of space to stash their belongings away with a storage bed. If it’s time to invest in a new bed for the spare room, the Lucia is one of our bestsellers and is sure to impress.
Alternatively, if you’re not ready to invest in a whole new bed, perhaps consider some storage furniture instead. The Lucia/Wilson blanket box is a neutral design that’s bound to complement any existing bed frame, and is ideal for keeping spare bedrooms tidy and clutter-free. To add some extra festive flare, pop some seasonal spices like cloves, cinnamon sticks and pine sprigs inside – it’ll make your guests’ belongings, and the whole room, smell absolutely divine.
If you don’t have a spare bedroom for your guests, a sofa bed could be the perfect solution.
Sofa beds are a smart choice to turn any multi-functional spare room into a cosy hideaway for your guests. One of our favourite picks is the Eppy. This two-seater design has a simple clic-clac mechanism, making it super easy to take from chair to bed. Plus, its rich green woven upholstery will add a pop of vibrant colour to your space (and is perfect for the winter time!).
All our sofa beds easily convert from sitting to sleeping – just add bedding and your guests can drift off into a deep slumber.
It’s easy to overlook lighting if your guest room isn’t used too often, but candles, string lights or a soft lamp will finish the space beautifully – and add a festive glow.
A garland of fairy lights can be a wonderful accompaniment to any headboard or curtain rail – adding a sweet lamp effect without the need for a side table. Candles are a lovely extra too. Scented picks will add a warm glow as well as making the room smell gorgeous for your guests’ arrival.
Or, why not invest in a festive wreath with twinkling fairy lights that you can hang above their bed like we’ve done with the Jay bed below? Just one statement piece can totally transform a spare room into a festive haven.
While you’re decking the halls, why not deck the guest bedroom too?
It’s the most wonderful time of the year, so go all out and embrace the festivities! A Christmas tree in the bedroom is a sure-fire way to impress your guests and make them feel oh-so festive.
If a full-size tree isn’t quite right for your space, a mini tree will do just the trick. You could even pop a small gift or two under the tree for them to open on Christmas morning…
Christmas will come early for your guests with these wonderful thoughtful finishes.
When your bed is beautifully laid out, complete the festive cheer by treating your guests to a pair of cosy slippers, a dressing gown and some fresh towels. Having these stylishly folded and ready to use on the bed will make them feel instantly at home. For an extra special touch, how about adding an oh-so warming heated blanket to the bed so they stay toasty all night long?
These simple extras will make them feel warmly welcomed. Happy hosting!
