Is your bedroom more ‘tidy room, tidy mind’ or ‘organised chaos’? Whether you love to keep things neat or revel in a bit of clutter, we know it can be difficult to keep on top of bedroom decluttering.

No matter how hard we try, there inevitably comes a time when we find ourselves getting tired of sifting through overstuffed drawers and tripping over strewn shoes. If you’re wondering how to declutter your bedroom, you’ve come to the right place.

In this article, we’ll identify the top causes of bedroom clutter and share simple ways to avoid the mess piling up.

Clothes

From chairdrobes to overflowing laundry baskets, clothes are the main culprits for most bedroom clutter. Luckily, all you need is some savvy storage.

Whether you need somewhere to store out-of-season clothes or keep bulky shoes safely stashed, ottoman storage beds are a great option. Conveniently lifting from the side or end to reveal reams of secret storage, ottomans give you a beautiful bed and bountiful space too.

The Yardley Bed Frame is an excellent multitasking bed that will help you keep organised and save valuable space. With a low-slung foot end that opens to reveal the ottoman below, the Yardley is effortlessly relaxed in appearance. But with over 20cm of discreet storage, it’ll hide your best-kept secrets, from bulky jumpers to scarves, sweats and more.

If you’re desperate for more space but love the look of a traditional bed frame, why not try a shadow ottoman bed? Shadow ottomans create the illusion of space under the bed, with a dark fabric pouch that rests on the floor to keep your belongings safe.

Take our gorgeous Alana, for example. She looks every part the classic bed frame, with a secret storage pouch hidden under the slats. With over 35cm of space to stash your essentials, ottoman beds are an exceptionally practical choice that won’t compromise your style either.

Technology

Bulky monitors, misplaced remotes, unsightly cables… tech can cause big problems when trying to keep your bedroom tidy. Don’t worry, we have the solution.

When it comes to multitasking furniture, it doesn’t get much slicker than our range of TV and tech beds. Our Seoul bed frame is an impressive choice with its side-opening ottoman storage, discreet media tray for your favourite consoles, and 32-inch LED TV hidden in the slim footboard.

Avoiding the need for an additional TV stand in the bedroom, you can also keep your walls clear for shelves to house your favourite trinkets, instead of hanging a TV with unsightly wires on show.

Providing plenty of entertainment, along with practical storage spaces you’ll love, the Seoul is an exceptionally handy bedroom addition.

Lamps and lights

Mood lighting is incredibly important for a bedroom, but if you’re struggling for floorspace, floor-standing lamps can eat up precious inches. How about trying another way?

Sweet fairy lights, wall brackets or ceiling fittings are excellent options… but what if your bed could do the work for you? With the opulent Morten Bed, you can enjoy built-in bedside tables plus glamorous spotlights.

Its grand hotel-inspired headboard takes care of every bedtime essential, so you can focus on keeping your bedroom looking perfect. With a convenient bedside drawer, ottoman storage and handy USB ports, you can keep the clutter to an absolute minimum.

Keep, donate or throw away

When it’s time to part ways with precious items, set aside some time to really tidy up and declutter your room with this simple method:

  1. Go through your drawers, shelves and wardrobe separately and take out everything.
  2. Make three piles: ‘Keep’, ‘Donate’ and ‘Throw away’. The best way of deciding which pile to put something in is to hold it and think about how often you use or wear it. Would it be better used by someone else? Could it be recycled or upcycled? Another popular tip is to see whether the item ‘sparks joy’ while you hold it – online and TV sensation Marie Kondo has famously spearheaded this movement.
  3. Once you’ve got your ‘Keep’ piles for each area, take some time to clean the areas before you place the belongings back in. Box up the rest of the two piles, dispose of accordingly and give yourself a pat on the back – well done you!

Follow these simple tips and you’ll be on your way to a neat and tidy bedroom. And don’t forget to make your bed every day – this article explains why.
