"Colour drenching can be an easy way to create an elevated look. Style furniture, objects and textures in the same tones to bring the look to life. If you’re nervous about teaming colours and creating a scheme, this is a great way to streamline the design process and create a luxury look."

As our Interiors Expert Whinnie Williams predicts, colour drenching is the must-try paint trend of 2025. As we enter a new era of bold design choices, one that proudly celebrates colour, it’s time to experiment with our favourite shades.

And what’s not to love? Colour drenching allows us to express our creativity in our homes and achieves a chic, elevated look. Plus, by splashing the same paint everywhere, it can even help to make your room look bigger. Hurrah!

In this blog, we explore exactly what we mean by ‘colour drenching,’ with tips on selecting the best shade for your desired aesthetic. Plus, we’ll show you how to style your colour-drenched room with different furniture, textures and lighting to create a show home-like bedroom.

What is colour drenching, and why does it work?

Colour drenching is the art of taking a single colour and – quite literally – drenching your entire room in it. And we really do mean everywhere. From the floor to the ceiling, the walls, skirting boards, radiators, the lot! The result is a seamless backdrop which blends everything together, for an elevated, harmonious look in your bedroom.

Best shades for colour drenching in the bedroom

Picking the right shade for your colour drenching is incredibly important. Depending on what colour you choose, you can create hundreds of different vibes and ambiences. From light and airy colour-drenched rooms to dark and dramatic ones, there’s something to suit everyone. All you need is the right can of paint.

Wondering what shades are best for colour drenching in the bedroom? We’ve got you. Let’s explore some of the most stunning shades for colour drenching, along with our top styling tips on how to bring each palette to life…

Deep forest green

Want to be one with nature? A forest green bedroom is always a good idea. Thanks to its calming qualities, dark green will bring a sense of serenity and zen to your space. Plus, with its obvious connections to the natural world, a forest green colour palette can make you feel closer connected to the restorative outdoors, making it an ideal choice for your bedroom.

To style, dark green looks great with warm, earthy brown tones, so keep things natural! Pair with a textured wooden bed frame, like our Bangkok bed and dress this in tonal green bed sheets. Make sure to style with plenty of houseplants to create the ultimate indoor jungle. This colour scheme has got the green light from us…

Rich burgundy

If you’re looking for a bold, mature bedroom, look no further than a rich burgundy tone. When used all over a room, this shade just oozes sophistication.

We love how this study uses accents of dark mahogany brown to complement the deep red colour-drenched walls. If you have a bookshelf or shelving unit in your bedroom like this room, make sure to paint the inside of the shelves too, to continue the colour drenching technique. Finish the look with some small pops of white, such as a rug or some lampshades, to lighten things up, and you’re ready for slumber.

One of the main advantages of the colour-drenching technique is that it blends any hard edges or lines. Instead, when you gaze at your bedroom, your eye simply drifts over the space for a calming, tranquil feel. This works especially well with soft, pastel colours such as blush pink.

We’d recommend keeping the aesthetic soft and dreamy and using white as an accent colour. Just look at how our Fairbourne collection pops against this pale blush backdrop and matching pink accessories. Now imagine if the ceiling and floors were also painted pink – hello Barbie’s dream house!

Classic navy blue

If you’re keen to create a dark and moody ambience in your bedroom, then navy is the shade for you. This timeless colour has long been associated with sophistication, and now, more and more of us are being brave and splashing entire rooms in the shade.

We love how easily you can change the atmosphere of a room to sumptuous with one single hue. Just look how cosy and luxurious this navy bedroom is here. You’ll want to spend every second of your day there…

Serene sky blue

Ah, calming sky blue. This is one of our favourite shades to colour drench with because it always creates a super relaxing, serene environment – ideal for your bedroom design.

Plus, light blue is easy to style, too. Try layering different shades of blue and white to create a monochromatic feel which mimics the ocean. This kind of aesthetic calls for lots of soft furnishings, plenty of pillows and cosy throws that you can sink into after a long day. Aaaand relax!

Cheerful yellow

Need a pick-me-up? Drenching your bedroom in sunshine yellow is a surefire way to make sure you wake up with a smile on your face. Plus, it’s even been linked to helping you sleep better – result!

To decorate your yellow bedroom, keep things neutral with small pops of white furniture. Or, if you’re feeling bold, we love using accents of other clashing colours to create a maximalist design. We love a bright yellow paired with a bold purple or blue, like in this living room. Add in some geometric patterns and you’re on to a winner!

Of course, yellow might not be for everyone. But, if you’re not one to be afraid of experimenting with a bit of dopamine design, then this could be the perfect shade for the bedroom of your dreams.

Cool charcoal grey

Prefer something a little more understated? Don’t worry, colour drenching isn’t reserved solely for vibrant colours. On the contrary, we love how cool shades such as a moody charcoal grey looks when used all over a bedroom design.

Complement your grey walls with a matching grey bed, such as our upholstered Sutton bed frame, and add accents of silver for just a touch of contemporary glam.

Muted neutrals

First time colour drenching? Play it safe with an ever-so classy and timeless neutral shade, such as white, cream, grey or beige. These tones make for less of a bold statement than a bright colour, but add subtle sophistication. And the best news? It’s sure to stay in style for years to come, so you won’t need to think about redecorating for a long time. Win-win.

Styling-wise, neutrals look great with fellow neutrals, so keep things tonal when you come to decorating. We love a beige colour-drenched bedroom, featuring light wooden furniture and tan brown accents.

Layering tones and textures for depth

Worried about your colour-drenched bedroom looking a little 2D? Fear not. The easiest way to add some depth and dimension to your design is by layering multiple textures.

For instance, if you’re designing a neutral bedroom, try playing around with different materials for your furniture, such as a wooden bed frame, dressed in soft linen bed sheets, contrasted with a retro rattan bedside table, and a fluffy rug on the floor. By cleverly mixing materials, you’ll create lots of intrigue and the room will feel more homey.

You don’t have to stick to the exact shade, either. The tone on tone design technique focuses on layering various shades of a single colour throughout a room. For example, a red tone-on-tone bedroom design may feature a wine red headboard (such as our Flaxby Rainton one), burgundy bed sheets and pops of cherry red accents throughout the room; all of which are different tones of the core shade of red. The result is a beautifully cohesive and stylish aesthetic.

Choosing complementary accents to enhance the look

Just because you’re drenching your walls, floors and ceiling in the same colour, doesn’t mean everything has to be the same shade. Once you’ve finished your paint job, you can move on to the fun part: accessorising!

When your floors, walls and ceiling are all painted in the same hue, this makes for the ideal backdrop to add some pops of colour with your furniture. Perhaps you want to create a statement with your bed frame? Or maybe you want to bring in an accent chair in a contrast colour? Or use ornaments to break up the colour drenching? Whatever you choose, there are plenty of ways to bring your bedroom to life with complementary accents.

Considering the ceiling: don't forget the fifth wall

Gone are the days of boring white ceilings! With colour drenching, every inch of your room should be engulfed in your chosen shade, including the ceiling.

Have you ever noticed that a white ceiling can sometimes look jarring, especially when you’ve got a dark paint shade on your walls? To help blend everything together and create a continuous look, paint your ceiling in the same colour and transform it into your fifth wall! This way, your ceiling gets that much-needed bit of TLC, creating a cosy den in your bedroom.

Top tip: If you’re wondering what order you should paint everything in, always start with the ceiling. This way, you’ll avoid any paint dripping down on your freshly painted walls. If in doubt, start at the top and work your way down.

Adjusting lighting for impact

When you eliminate contrast from your room, it can leave the space looking a little flat. Whilst some people love this look, you may want to bring some of that dimension back by playing around with your lighting.

We’d recommend skipping the big light and instead, popping smaller lamps around different corners of your room to add stunning, illuminated nooks. By experimenting with lighting, you can add tonnes of contrast and even create the illusion of different shades of your one base colour. Let there be light!

Does colour drenching make a room look bigger?

Yes, it can! Colour drenching can create the illusion of a bigger room because it softens any hard edges and subtly blurs the lines between the floor, your walls and the ceiling.

By drenching everything in the same single colour, you can cleverly trick the eye into making a space feel much larger than it actually is. Therefore, colour drenching is an excellent design choice for a smaller bedroom, particularly for a guest room or your children’s bedrooms.

Using the colour drenching technique is a super easy way to create a standout look for your bedroom – all from one humble paint choice! So whether you’re after a calming, pale blue aesthetic or a bright and bold yellow bedroom, there’s a way to achieve the colour drenching look to suit every taste.
