There’s plenty to shout about when it comes to British interior designers. From the masters of quintessentially British charm to up-and-coming rising stars who are daring to push contemporary boundaries, the UK is a real powerhouse for interior design.
Here, we’ve handpicked a dozen of our favourite British interior designers, featuring an array of diverse design philosophies and styles that incorporate British influences, as well as influencers from all corners of the world.

First up, we have interior designer and socialite, Nicholas Ponsonby Haslam. Founder of the London-based interior design firm, Nicky Haslam Studio, Haslam is renowned for his original, timeless designs. According to the studio, Nicky Haslam’s style is “civilised and glamorous, layered with a historical knowledge combined with the essentials of our contemporary lifestyles.”
His designs are full of character and wit, often focusing on creating playful, sophisticated welcoming areas and using nods to the past which are truly timeless.

How about a dragon? Kelly Hoppen CBE may not be able to breathe fire, but she certainly knows how to design a jaw-dropping space. The South African-born British interior designer and author has won countless accolades for her designs and was even a dragon on BBC’s Dragons’ Den back in the 2010s.
Whilst her design style is ever evolving, her trademark look is a blend of East and West aesthetics: “characterised by clean lines, neutral tones, and meticulous attention to texture and detail” for a stunning, contemporary look.

Next up we have award-winning luxury interior and furniture designer, Fiona Barratt-Campbell. Her furniture design company, FBC London, is dedicated to crafting unique pieces that reflect the “ever-changing textures, colours and patterns that nature provides.” All of Fiona’s designs pay respect to time-honoured techniques and craftsmanship, whilst looking to the future.

Ben Pentreath is quickly becoming one of the must-know British interior designers on the scene. In 2023, he became one of the youngest laureates to win the Richard H. Driehaus Prize – an award “given to a living architect whose work embodies the highest principles of traditional and classical architecture and urbanism in contemporary society.”
Often working with listed and historic buildings, Pentreath’s studio designs tend to honour the type of sophisticated elegance that you see in older British architecture. Think grand stately homes and quaint London townhouses.

Martyn Lawrence Bullard is an English interior designer based in LA. Known for his “broad range of styles and ability to create globally–inspired, sophisticated, and inviting interiors,” Martyn has his fair share of celebrity clients, from the Kardashians to Cher! His designs celebrate beauty, comfort, and his own words: “a touch of the unexpected!” If it’s good enough for Kris Jenner, it’s good enough for us…

Synonymous with prestigious style, David Collins Studio is an award-winning luxury interior design studio, specialising in contemporary aesthetics for the hospitality, residential and retail sectors. Think opulent hotel lobbies, decadent bars and glamorous shopping malls – no space is too flashy!

Sophie Conran’s designs are the epitome of British countryside charm. Best known for her hand-made bespoke sofas, Sophie’s furniture is everything you want for a cosy afternoon of lounging: plush, squishy chairs you can sink into, covered in beautifully finished upholstery fabric. The rest of her style continues this aesthetic, with classic designs, vibrant colours and playful patterns at the forefront, creating a wholesome, cosy aesthetic in any space.

Whinnie Williams is a British interior designer and Dreams’ resident Interiors Expert.
Best known for being the creative director and co-founder of retro-inspired interior brand Poodle & Blonde, Whinnie has shared her expertise on many TV appearances, as guest designer on Channel 4’s Changing Rooms and presenter of BBC Three’s renovation show Flat Out Fabulous.
Whinnie has built a reputation for creating “aspirational yet accessible designs. Each of her hand-drawn creations seamlessly combines her artistic talents and impeccable sense of style, evoking nostalgia, glamour, timeless design, and originality. Her work effortlessly transforms the spaces we live, work, and play.”

Next up we have London-based interior designer, Christian Bense. Having relocated from South Africa to London in 2015, it’s clear in his design work that he has been deeply influenced by South African design styles, combined with a clear nod to the more traditional interiors seen in UK homes. The result? A harmonious blend of mixed cultures, and a combination of classic and contemporary looks.

Sophie Ashby is a London-based interior designer and founder of Studio Ashby. Her signature style is a wonderful cocktail of blended identities, timeless elegance and eclectic design influences.
Sophie’s renowned interior design studio “draws inspiration from her passion for antiques, contemporary art, craftsmanship, modernist furniture, and global influences, creating richly layered interiors that stand the test of time.”

Meet your new favourite duo, Sophie van Winden and Simone Gordon, who founded Owl Design in 2014 – thanks to their shared love of joyful, daring design.
Owl Design’s slogan is “space for positive living.” Through balancing form with function, their mission is to create uplifting interiors that have a lasting positive impact on the people who inhabit them every day – because that’s what it’s all about, right?

Tala Fustok is the founder of Tala Fustok Studio. Thanks to her multicultural heritage, Tala has been exposed to a rich mix of influences, which can be seen clearly in her distinctive design style. She has an eye for vintage pieces, whilst honouring contemporary designs.
Tala is also known for her bold approach to using rich, opulent materials in her work, as well as integrating elements of surprise by transforming everyday spaces into exciting, inspiring interiors.
And that’s our very best of British. Remember, if there’s one thing that any of these interior designers would tell you, it’s that designing a space is a very personal journey. Keep both style and functionality front of mind. Your bedroom should look and feel good to you and no one else! At least, no one else that isn’t sharing your room – we’d recommend running any designs past your partner first…
