1. Quiet home comforts

Taking care and finding comfort is arguably more important now than ever before. Our homes have become a space where we feel at our most peaceful, with a focus on home comforts and quiet moments amongst the chaos.

For many of us, our bedroom is where we are at our most vulnerable. If our bedroom were to ask us how we are, we’d probably take some time to consider the answer instead of returning a casual pleasantry.

Therefore, prioritising comfort and care is incredibly important in your sleep sanctuary. Soft fabrics, cocooning headboards and rich rugs can all contribute towards this sense of calm, as can carving out some space in your bedroom for rest and reflection outside of the bed. The rise of bedroom furniture in 2022 is set to continue into the new year, including snug sofas, opulent armchairs and blanket boxes, all perfect for finding a quiet moment during your night-time routine.

Our recent sleep study found that although as a nation we are spending more time in bed compared to previous years, our sleep quality has decreased as we find things to distract us from precious slumber. Eating, drinking, social media and gaming have all found their way into our sleep spaces, so why not find a place in your bedroom for total calm, where you can unwind before resting your head?

If we can’t convert you from digital dozing, our range of headboards and bedside tables complete with USB charging ports or streamlined tech beds might be just the thing for you.

2. Soft fabrics and natural finishes

The organic world has been slowly finding its way into our homes in recent years, and the trend towards upholstered headboards has introduced a new way to embrace the outdoors from the comfort of your home.

Soft textures and natural fabrics are an important design element for 2023 interiors – not just for their stunning finish, but sustainable credentials.

Reflecting the rise in popularity of earth tones and organic textures, an upholstered headboard could be the perfect choice for injecting some tactile comfort you’ll love sinking into at the end of a long day. Our range of natural fabrics will welcome you in night after night. Why not opt for a winged headboard for a gentle cocooning effect and added cosiness? Our Chloe bed frame, finished in sumptuous bouclé, is comforting and stylish with its on-trend design.

And with the origin of our purchases of greater importance than ever before, you can rest easy knowing we have a range of natural fabrics available to suit your style. For more fully traceable British materials, browse our range of Flaxby mattresses for the latest in sustainable innovation.

3. Try the wooden way

Speaking of natural finishes, wood is back in a big way. Reminiscent of trendy Japandi style, adding wood elements into the bedroom helps to create an oasis of calm that’s still an extension of the outside world.

Perfectly pairing minimalism and cosy lived-in comfort, Japandi interiors are set to continue their dominance in décor into 2023.

If you’ve already incorporated the hygge principles of cosiness into your home, adding some wooden elements to your bedroom will help to complete the natural feel of Japandi design. Some ways you could do this include:

  • choosing natural wood finish photo frames, shelves or accessories for a light touch
  • opting for wooden or laminate flooring over carpet, with the addition of some thick rugs for added comfort
  • adding a wooden bench or blanket box to the end of your bed, luxuriously layered with a cosy throw
  • or go all in on a wooden bed frame, such as the Morten pictured above. Natural frames such as this are particularly reminiscent of traditional Japanese bedrooms.

4. Max out on maximalism

You’ve heard of dopamine dressing, now get ready for funky interiors full of vibrancy and joy. Let’s hear it for the maximalist’s favourite mantra: more is more!

Last year, we told you all about the surge in searches for curved furniture and arched walls. This year, the trend continues with a new twist: all-out maximalism.

Born out of wacky shapes and bright colours, maximalism is all about self expression, and where better to do that than the bedroom? Pairing prints, patterns and textures for a statement finish, fans of a busy bedroom are in luck this year.

Don’t be fooled into thinking that maximalism means chaos, however. There are plenty of ways to introduce this trend in ways that won’t keep you up at night. Focus on items in your bedroom that bring you joy (thanks, Marie Kondo) and build from there. Try daring colours, vibrant patterns and curved accessories to create a sleep sanctuary that makes you smile all year round.

5. Let your headboard do the talking

If you’re not a true maximalist at heart, opting for statement furniture in more serene spaces can bring balance and harmony to your bedroom. In 2023, the rise of feature walls complete with cornicing and panelling mean statement headboards are all the rage.

We know your bed is more than a place you rest your head, so why not make a statement with it? Now your bed can be your feature wall and much, much more.

This continues the 2022 trend of multi-function furniture – in fact, our Owen Bed Frame with added bedside tables comes with extra shelves and built-in slick spotlights. With handy USB charging ports, you’ll have everything you need at your fingertips.

For those who love the finer things, choosing a statement headboard will add a touch of five-star glamour to any bedroom. Now you don’t have to wait until your summer holiday to enjoy hotel luxury night after night.

Plus, you can add any of our headboards to your existing divan or ottoman bed base, for an easy upgrade that won’t break the bank.

6. Wellbeing wins all

Being in bed should be a restful experience every night, but we know that’s not always the case. Giving yourself the best possible chance of restfully recharging is a priority we all need to carry into the new year.

Keeping yourself well should always be a focus in the modern day. But with our 2024 sleep study revealing that only 6% of us wake up feeling refreshed, we believe it’s more important now than ever before.

We know the right bed for you isn’t a simple thing to find, let alone something that suits anyone else who may share your space (partner or pet, we don’t judge!).

That’s why our range of adjustable beds are designed with your optimum comfort in mind. Using our unique Sleepmotion technology, you can wirelessly control a range of adjustable areas across your sleeping surface, including your head, back and feet. Some even come with massage units! Now that’s what we call a relaxing night’s rest.

Plus, our brand new u&i model offers a split platform bed frame, so you and whoever you share your bed with can find independent support that suits you.

And that’s not all. If you’re looking to refresh your mattress this year – which we do recommend you replace every 8 years – our in-store Sleepmatch service will find your ideal mattress in just 3 minutes. By scanning your body and movement using our bespoke patented technology, we’ll help you bring the perfect mattress home. We’ll even recycle your old one for you, too.

Together, we’ll make your sleep sanctuary a place you can find comfort and joy in 2023 and beyond.
