What should I consider when choosing a divan bed base?

When looking for the right divan for you, you’ll first need to determine how much storage you’d like, whether it’s just the base with two or four drawers or a lift-up mechanic like an ottoman bed. Then, you’ll need to consider the size of the base to versus the size of the space. Our divans come in small single to emperor size, but be aware that if you choose drawers, you’ll need to account for the space at the sides of the bed for when the drawers are fully open.

You should also consider what base you want, as it impacts the comfort level and mattress; we'll cover this in more detail in the next section. Finally, you'll want to decide whether you want a headboard, as divans don't usually come with one as standard.

Divan bed base types

• Platform top: A solid base, gives your mattress a firmer feel. Storage options contain 2 or 4 drawers or a lift-up base.
• Sprung base: Contains a layer of springs, giving your mattress a softer, more cushioned feel. Comes with the optional storage choice of 2 or 4 drawers.

Both divan bases are comfortable and durable options, but you should note that not all mattresses are suited to every base type. For example, platform tops are ideal with memory foam mattresses whereas a sprung divan base works better with a pocket spring mattress.

Typically, divans can last for around 10 years or more. They're a good choice for a long-lasting sleep solution as there are fewer joining parts to wear down than other bed frames.
